How Singing Affects Your Brain - Six Reasons to Sing

February 27, 2019 - 8:48am -- Sue Middleton

6 Healthy Reasons To Sing

Singing is beneficial in many ways but do you know how important singing is for your brain? Most of you are thinking, really? Well, I'm here to tell you yes - really. Stay with me now as I explain just what singing does to your brain. This could be a life-changer for you and yours.

Do you enjoy singing? If your answer is yes I have some good news for you. When you sing, endorphins (feel-good chemicals) are released in your brain. This brings about positive psychological effects. If you suffer from depression or are temporarily down in the dumps after a bad day, singing will help lift you from your dark place into the light.

A new Regional Governance Pilot North for Northwest Region #13 of Sweet Adelines International is now in full swing. This two-year pilot, which began May 1, 2017, allows the region to develop a model that works best for our region and it’s members, while developing a strong connection to the International organization.

Capital City Sound joins Region 13

November 17, 2016 - 12:37pm -- Sue Middleton

North by Northwest Region 13 is thrilled to add Capital City Sound, out of Boise, ID, to our fold.

Capital City Sound is co-directed by Jerrie Beyrodt and Andy Maddox. The chapter is the result of a merger in August 2013 between existing choruses Treasure Valley Showtime Chorus and Syringa Sound Chorus. The two choral groups had been very successful in the Treasure Valley, and the resulting merger created a chorus with more voices, energy and dynamism. Previously, Capital City Sound was part of Sweet Adelines' Region 8, but petitioned to be part of Region 13 for geographic and financial reasons. They will be joining us onstage in Spokane for the 2017 convention and contest!

Welcome, Capital City Sound!
